ay Lamar is an editor and writer whose most recent book is Old Enough: Southern Women Artists and Writers on Creativity and Aging (University of Georgia Press, 2024), co-edited with Jennifer Horne. She is co-editor, with Jeanie Thompson, of The Remembered Gate: Memoirs by Alabama Writers (University of Alabama Press, 2003), and her work has appeared in Southern Humanities Review and The Global South (edited by Ann Fisher-Wirth). In addition, she has written and edited for a wide range of scholarly, professional, and public-interest publications for almost thirty years. Jay was founding director of the Alabama Book Festival and first director of the Alabama Center for the Book. She served as executive director of the Alabama Bicentennial Commission, 2014–2020. She lives in Auburn, Alabama.
